WOLVY VS VIMEO

Vimeo hides your video.
It doesn't lock it.

Unlisted links, passwords and domain rules are privacy settings — they decide who finds your video. Encryption decides who can keep it. On Vimeo that second thing is an Enterprise add-on. On Wolvy it starts at $41 a month.

“This feature is available as an add-on with the Enterprise plan.”

Five ways people actually take video.

Not a feature table. The same attack, run against a self-serve Vimeo plan and against Wolvy, step by step. One of the five is a draw — we left it in.

Where protection lives

You cannot buy it with a card.

Vimeo's published plans go up to Advanced. Encryption is not on any of them — it is on the tier with no price, behind a sales call, and it costs extra on top.

  1. Starter $12/mo 1 seat · 2 TB storage No DRM
  2. Standard $25/mo more seats · review tools No DRM
  3. Advanced $75/mo 10 seats · 7 TB storage No DRM
  4. Enterprise Custom sales contract DRM = paid add-on
EVERY WOLVY DRM PLAN

Widevine, PlayReady and FairPlay, App-Only screen-record blocking, forensic watermarking and the SDK — on the $41/mo entry tier, billed yearly. No contract, no add-on line, no call.

And after you've signed

The fine print on their own DRM page.

This is what Vimeo tells Enterprise customers about the add-on, in their own words. We are quoting it because it is easy to assume a DRM upgrade removes every limit. It does not.

Playback may be capped at 720pin certain environments to comply with HDCP content protection requirements

Will not work on third-party playersDRM-protected videos are locked to their own player

Text tracks are not encryptedtranscripts and thumbnails stay in the clear

360-degree playback is not supportedyou lose the format entirely

Wolvy streams protected video at full resolution, and App-Only Mode blocks capture at the operating-system level rather than depending on the browser.

Worth saying plainly

Vimeo is a better product than us — at a different job.

Vimeo is one of the best video presentation platforms ever built. The player is beautiful, the review-and-comment workflow is excellent, the showcases and portfolios are genuinely lovely, and for a studio reel, a marketing site or a client approval loop it is the obvious choice. None of that is in dispute.

It is simply not built to sell access to video that people would otherwise steal. If your video is the product — a paid course, a screener, a ticketed replay — you need the encryption layer, and on Vimeo that is a contract you negotiate rather than a plan you buy.

The DRM quotes, the 720p cap, the third-party-player limit and the unencrypted text tracks all come from Vimeo's own help article, Digital Rights Management (DRM) for my videos, read on 3 September 2026. Plan prices and the privacy settings (Unlisted, Password, Hide from Vimeo, domain-level embedding) come from vimeo.com/upgrade and the Vimeo Help Centre on the same date.

The drill describes how these mechanisms work in general terms, not a test against any specific Vimeo account. Vimeo is a trademark of its owner; this page is comparative information, not an affiliation. Plans change — tell us if anything here has drifted.

Put a real lecture behind it and try to steal it yourself.
